We are committed to working in partnership with parents, carers and the Local Authority to ensure that all pupils attend school regularly and on time.
We strive to provide a welcoming, caring and inclusive environment where every child feels safe, valued and ready to learn. Good attendance supports children’s wellbeing, helps them build positive relationships and gives them the best possible opportunity to make progress, fulfil their potential and prepare for future education and employment.
We recognise that barriers to attendance can arise for some families. Our dedicated Attendance Team works closely with parents and carers to offer support, guidance and early intervention where needed. We also signpost families to services and agencies that can provide additional help to ensure children attend school regularly.
Through effective communication, strong partnerships with families and a positive approach to attendance, we aim to ensure that every child benefits from the full range of learning and opportunities available at The Oval School. We celebrate and reward good attendance and punctuality, while working constructively with families to address any concerns and improve attendance where necessary.
Every day counts, and being in school every day gives children the best chance to learn, succeed and thrive
Being on time for school is important. Arriving promptly helps children settle into the school day, take part in morning learning activities, receive important information from their teacher, and develop positive habits that support their learning and future success.
Children who arrive late can miss important learning, feel unsettled when joining lessons that have already started and, for some children, this can be embarrassing and affect their confidence
